Fine Wine Manager (Trade Sales) – Leading UK Agency

We are looking for a proactive and well-connected sales professional to manage the existing customer base and further develop new opportunities for Mentzendorff’ s outstanding fine wine and Champagne portfolio to UK trade customers and fine wine merchants. You will need to be a very customer centric person, and a large part of your time will be spent meeting with customers and also hosting them on visits to our principals (partner wineries).  This is a fantastic role for the right person with a positive outlook and strong commercial and product knowledge skills. With iconic brands such a Bollinger Champagne and Taylor’s Port (amongst others) there is a genuine opportunity here to help shape the fine wine strategy for Mentzendorff and reporting to the Head of Fine Wine.

It is anticipated you would have demonstrable experience in a similar role already and some contacts but also eager to learn and develop your career further with us.

The salary paid will be commensurate with your skills, experience and qualifications but please note this is a mid-level role and reports to the Head of Fine Wine.

Detailed information on this role

  1. Planning
  • To develop effective bespoke strategies for targeting key prospect accounts and specific sectors.
  • Work alongside the Mentzendorff Sales team and Brand Team to implement plans cost effectively and efficiently.
  • To ensure that plans and resulting sales dovetail with both the Mentzendorff strategy and the successful candidate’s budgeted objectives.
  • To ensure that the plans and developed activities drive distribution, rate of sale and awareness for the brands concerned to help the business achieve its overall targets.
  • To ensure that all principals’ objectives for the sector are understood and met to the best of our ability.
  1. Implementation
  • To effectively use P&L’s to create profitable relationships.
  • Working alongside the Head of Fine Wine ensure that all customer needs are met or exceeded, from initial prospect through to day-to-day running, events, and staff training.
  • Working together with the Head of Fine Wine ensure that the Regional Sales Manager’s activity enhances both the image of the individual brands they represent, as well as the overall image of Mentzendorff within their region.
  • Working closely with the team to ensure all leads are handled in the most appropriate way possible.

 

  1. Reporting
  • Continually monitor, analyse, and complete any required actions in an organised and timely manner.
  • Utilise and analyse sales data in order to identify trends, weaknesses, and opportunities.
  • Continually monitor and be aware of competitor strategy and performance, reporting key information and findings to the Mentzendorff team.

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

  • Demonstrable experience in sales in the wines and spirits industry.
  • Wine knowledge to a high standard – WSET Level 3 or Diploma preferred.
  • Experience of selling within the fine wine sector will be beneficial.

Skills and Abilities

  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of multitasking to a high level, in order to manage time effectively and hit deadlines.
  • A demonstrable passion for, and ability to sell, premium and fine wine.
  • Being a very effective communicator with all stakeholders is essential.
  • An ability to motivate and excite customers and consumers to develop distribution and sales.
  • Ability to organise and conduct promotional activity, wine dinners, tutored tastings, etc.
  • Absolute attention to detail, highly numerate and IT literate.
  • Able to build relationships with internal teams as well as with external stakeholders.
  • Flexible approach & ability to adapt and learn quickly.
  • Be highly committed to doing a job to the very best of their ability and have an inbuilt desire to achieve their best for the business.

 

N.B. Must be prepared to work unsociable hours, including some evenings and weekends
