Fine Wine and Whisky Cask Logistics & Operations Manager (London Based)

Our client is entering into its 3rd year of trading and with impressive growth within the Whisky Cask market, the company is now wanting to diverse into Investment Grade Wine, along with building a ready to drink division of Fine wine & Spirits.  They currently service in excess of 3,000 clients and is a tech driven business, looking to disrupt the Spirit & Wine Investment space.  The business is very driven towards new business bringing onboard in excess of 200 new clients a month. The business will achieve a turnover of £25m this year which is a 100% growth from the year before.

Candidate Profile

 

  • The ideal candidate will be responsible managing the operations and logistics efforts for our client. The main part of this role will focus on the safe movement of casks under bond between distilleries, warehouses and other locations
  • Later in 2023 there will be a requirement for international operations experience as they move into the Fine Wine market with products being sourced globally so knowledge of export/ import and inbound logistics will be a distinct advantage
  • We are looking for experienced candidates with the relevant drinks industry experience and their expertise will be invaluable and you will be expected to lead the day to day Operations and Logistics functions
  • The candidate will need to be proactive and have excellent attention to detail and working knowledge and very good proficiency of the relevant software, systems, and protocols. Regarding imports from overseas, the degree of complexity has increased since Brexit and the associated paperwork therefore we will look for candidates who will have this experience also
  • Given the highly regulatory nature of alcohol (movement of casks in and out of bonds/ dealing with HMRC) the candidate will need to have experience of working in a highly regulated industry

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day logistical operations of the company
  • Ensuring the safe movement and storage of our £xx m of whisky casks and bottled wine under bond
  • Working with the COO to manage relationships with our partner warehouses, 3PL providers, suppliers, and customers
  • Tracking tax implications for import/export of alcohol for all markets of operation
  • Negotiating transport rates to optimise the logistical cost per bottle/cask
  • Improving Customer Satisfaction through bettering the company’s fulfilment of service
  • Reporting on Lead Times both internally & externally

 

Skills Required

  • Previous experience of an ERP system would be an advantage.
  • Full understanding of the new importing processes due to Brexit.
  • Proven analytical ability, with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to adhere to manage a varying workload.
  • Stock management experience ideally in the drinks industry.
  • Numerate and IT literate – unafraid to embrace technology
  • Great communication skills – capable of communicating with a wide range of people from suppliers to customers and all stakeholders along the supply chain.

Remuneration/ Place of Work

  • This will be a full-time role based in our London office – a degree of flexible working will be available
  • Base Salary c. £55k per annum plus pension and benefits
